Our US Tax Team
A cross-border return needs two different qualifications. This page names who does which part, and what each of them is actually licensed to do.
Why we do not use one person for both countries
A Chartered Accountant is the right professional for an Indian return and is not authorised to represent you before the IRS. Unlimited representation rights in the United States belong to Certified Public Accountants, Enrolled Agents and attorneys. Anyone paid to prepare a US federal return must also hold a Preparer Tax Identification Number.
This matters more than it sounds. A great deal of India-US tax advice circulates from advisers who are genuinely expert on one side of the border and are guessing on the other — which is how NRE interest gets left off a US return because it is tax free in India, and how Indian mutual funds get held for years without anyone mentioning the PFIC rules.
So your US return is prepared and reviewed by a US-credentialled professional, your Indian return by a Chartered Accountant, and the two are prepared against one shared set of facts.
Who reviews your US return
Teja K
Certified Public Accountant — US Individual & Non-Resident Tax
Teja K leads US tax preparation at EvoTax, covering individual Form 1040 returns and the non-resident and dual-status filings that visa holders and international students need. The focus is the work consumer tax software handles badly: establishing residency under the substantial presence test, applying treaty positions, recovering wrongly withheld FICA, and correcting returns filed on the wrong basis.
- US Individual Tax Return Preparation
- Non-Resident Tax Filing (Form 1040-NR)
- Substantial Presence Test and Residency Determination
- Dual-Status Tax Returns
- FBAR and Foreign Account Reporting
Who handles the India side
Chartered Accountants, qualified for Indian tax. They prepare Indian returns and the India-side records a US return relies on — Form 26AS, the AIS, and evidence of Indian tax paid for a foreign tax credit claim.

How to check a US tax preparer
You should not take any preparer's word for their standing, including ours. Two checks are worth doing before you hand anyone your tax documents:
Licence and PTIN details for the preparer assigned to your return are provided on request before you engage us. Ask and we will give you the numbers to verify independently.
Get your tax situation reviewed
Tell us what you hold in India and what your US status is, and we will tell you what actually needs filing.
